Squash rules in 60 seconds
The short version, for people who just want to play. The full official rules are linked from rightcourtsc.com/assets — but honestly, this covers Tuesday night.
Scoring
- Point-a-rally (PAR) scoring: every rally wins someone a point, server or not.
- Games are to 11. At 10–all you must win by two clear points.
- Matches are best of five games.
The serve
- At least one foot inside the service box, no part touching the line.
- Hit the front wall above the service line, directly — no side wall first.
- The ball must land in the opposite back quarter of the court.
- Win the rally, keep the serve and switch sides. Lose it, hand it over.
Staying in
- Above the tin (the metal strip at the bottom of the front wall) — always.
- Below the out line on every wall, including the back wall.
- After the serve, the ball may hit any walls before the front wall.
- One bounce maximum before you hit it. The front wall must come last.
Lets & strokes
- Blocked from reaching or playing the ball? Call “let” and stop — don't swing through a human.
- Let — replay the rally: you could have played a good return but were impeded, or safety stopped play.
- Stroke— point to you: they didn't make enough effort to clear, or you were stopped from hitting a winner.
- No let— you wouldn't have reached a good return anyway.
Safety
- Hold your swing if there's any chance of hitting your opponent.
- Ball flying loose near someone? Call it and stop the point.
- Wear goggles. The ball travels faster than your excuses.
